- Open Curtains and blinds during the day to let heat in, and close them at night to help keep the heat inside your home
- Set your thermostat between 65° and 70° during the day and 58° and 60° at night or when away from home for more than a few hours

Hot Weather
- Close your window shades and curtains to reduce the amount of sunlight that comes in
- Set your thermostat no lower than 78°
- Shade your home and significantly reduce cooling costs by planting trees, vines and shrubs or installing awnings or patio covers
- Use ceiling fans as low cost alternatives to air conditioning. (If you already have air conditioning, a ceiling fan will help you circulate the cool air.)
- Clean or replace air conditioning filters every month, have your air conditioner serviced annually to make sure it is running properly.
- Replace your air conditioner or heat pump with a qualified unit and use less energy. 13 SEER is standard.
- Use a microwave instead of a conventional oven. It produces less heat, uses less electricity and cuts done on cooking time.
